Violinist Sarah Whitney has been heard worldwide across stages in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States, active as a solo, orchestral and chamber musician. An avid chamber musician, Sarah is currently a violinist with the New York City based ensemble Sybarite5, a group dedicated to broadening the string quintet repertoire and commissioning new works. Sybarite5 performs throughout NYC, recently performing at Lincoln Center, and was the first string quintet to be admitted to the Aspen Music Festival Advanced Quartet Studies program. Sarah has appeared with Sybarite5 on the CBS Early Morning Show and Aspen's Plum TV network. She was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of the David Krakauer Exploring Klezmer Workshop; and she has been a guest artist of the Cleveland Institute of Music Faculty Concert Series, the Cleveland Composer's Guild and the Memphis Chamber Music Society Solo Concert Series. Sarah frequents the orchestral stage, performing with the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, City Music Cleveland and the New World Symphony. She has held the position of concertmaster for the Livonia Symphony and the Michigan Opera Works Orchestra, has served as assistant concertmaster of the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Gustav Meier, and was in the pit orchestra for part of the Phantom of the Opera National Tour. Summer endeavors have taken Sarah across the world, including festivals in Italy, France, and China, as well as the Aspen Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, the Spoleto Music Festival, and the Meadowmount School of Music. Additionally, she has attended the Mark O'Connor Fiddle Camp where she studied with world renowned jazz violinists John Blake and Matt Glaser. Sarah holds a Bachelor's degree with Honors from the University of Michigan and Master of Music and Professional Studies Degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her teachers include Paul Kantor, William Preucil, Kathleen Winkler, Aaron Berofsky, Cyrus Forough, and Stephen Shipps. |
