Beyond the Notes:
AN INETRACTIVE CONCERT
BEYOND the NOTES, a concert series Sarah founded 3 years ago, is an interactive concert experience that gives the audience a chance to get to know the performer beyond what can be read in their bio. Musical performances are combined with conversational vignettes as well as a chance for audience members to submit questions that are answered at random throughout the evening. Following the concert, all answered questions are answered on the BEYOND the NOTES website.
Sarah is a violinist in the acclaimed string quintet SYBARITE5, one of the fastest-rising chamber-music ensembles in the United States. Recognized internationally for changing the perceptions of chamber music, SYBARITE5 is the first string quintet to win the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition. From Elgar to Radiohead and Visconti to Akiho, SYBARITE5’s eclectic repertoire and commanding performance style is turning heads throughout the music world: “…in a program of serial high points, there were too many to mention” (The Washington Post). SYBARITE5, whose album ‘Disturb the Silence’ reached the top ten on the Billboard Charts, has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall, the Library of Congress, the Aspen, Caramoor, Chautauqua, Grand Teton and Ravinia Festivals, and on the CBS Early Show.
SEEING DOUBLE is a unique concert of all duo violin music, proving that the music of two violins can be much more than the sum of their parts! The audience will be taken on a journey from Baroque to Jazz, with compositions by Telemann, Leclair, Mozart, Halvorsen, Bartok, Prokofiev, Martinu, Rosza, Summer, Chepaitis, and O'Connor, just to name a few!
Longtime best friends, Sarah Whitney and Julia Salerno began performing duo violin concerts while studying together at the University of Michigan. Though currently residing on opposite coasts, Julia as violin/viola professor at Eastern Washington University and Sarah as a violinist in the NYC based quintet Sybarite5, the concerts have continued over the past decade. This extraordinary opportunity to hear these friends in concert is not to be missed.
