On September, 13th, we will perform the program, I Hear America Singing:
In this 250th American commemorative year, Aurea joins forces with acclaimed actress, vocalist, and activist, Rose Weaver, celebrating the ever-unfolding ideals of democracy in our newest iteration of I Hear America Singing. The call for a more democratic and inclusive society is as urgent now as ever in our nation’s history. The program draws primarily from the writings of Walt Whitman’s vision for American democracy in the face of the Civil War and the powerful, uplifting words of Langston Hughes. Iconic American songs, string quartets of Florence Price, George Gershwin, Amy Beach, Charles Ives and Jessie Montgomery, merge with Chris Turner’s evocative improvisations to illuminate the emotional landscape of the readings.
