Beyond the Notes, a concept Sarah brought to life 9 years ago, is a unique and interactive concert experience that changes the perceptions of traditional classical concerts and deepens the connection between the audience and performer. In addition to unique and eclectic programming, the audience is also invited to participate in the concert by submitting written questions which are selected randomly and answered live on stage by the performers.
For this concert, renowned violinist Sarah Whitney takes center stage alongside with the multifaceted singer, songwriter, and actress Joelle Lurie for an evening that defies convention. Witness the magic as they weave together a tapestry of solos and duos, pushing the boundaries of musical expression. Be among the first to experience their groundbreaking collaboration—a fusion of violin, loop pedal, and voice that will ignite your senses and leave you craving more.
This program is supported in part by grants from the Concord Local Cultural Council and Acton-Boxborough Cultural Council - local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Sarah thrilled to join the faculty at the Trentino Music Festival in Mezzano, Italy where she will be performing, teaching masterclasses, coaching chamber music and leading musician entrepreneurship workshops.
The mission of Aurea Ensemble is to investigate and invigorate the relationship between music and the spoken word. Aurea aspires to unify the humanities and fine arts in dynamic, accessible & engaging ways through performance and educational outreach. Aurea’s concerts combine poetry with classical, folk and contemporary music, to create performances that sweep from intimate chamber settings to major theatrical venues.
For this show, Melville & the Great White Whale, Aurea sets its gaze on the life and times of Herman Melville and his seminal work, Moby-Dick. Fusing passages from the novel; Melville’s letters to Nathaniel Hawthorne, the novel’s dedicatee; string quartets of Beethoven and Webern, sea shanties and evocative harmonica improvisations of Chris Turner, Aurea highlights the philosophical themes inherent in this great American novel.
The renowned pianist who has played from the Kennedy Center to Lincoln Center and for Presidents Clinton and Obama joins us for an unforgettable evening with the crowd-favorite and dynamic Conductor of the Year, Andrew Grams. Featuring Jessie Montgomery: Strum and Rounds; J.S. Bach: Keyboard Concerto No. 4 in A Major, BWV 1055; and Schubert: Death and the Maiden.

For this concert, Sarah will be joined by guest artist Duo Cello e Basso with Emmanuel Feldman, cello and Pascale Delache-Feldman, double bass. Together, they will present an innovative program of solos, duos and trios, including a brand-new world premiere! In addition to a creative musical program, artists will share stories about their unique musical lives.
Sarah will be a guest artist in residence at Oberlin Conservatory as a guest speaker and performer leading workshops about musician entrepreneurship, working with composers and loop pedal & electronics.
