Outgrowing Goals
Here’s something we don’t talk about enough in the music world: you’re allowed to outgrow the goals you once set for yourself.
Maybe you spent years chasing tenure, only to realize it’s not the life you want. Maybe you loved performing, but now your passion is in teaching or composing. Maybe your dream five years ago doesn’t fit your values anymore. That's okay!
But it's not talked about enough.
In many ways, changing your mind aligns with "failure" in our culture.
But in reality, success on your terms simply means giving yourself permission to evolve.
It means noticing when a goal no longer feels aligned.
It means redefining what achievement looks like as you change.
So let me ask: Is there a goal or version of “success” you’ve outgrown lately? And what, if anything, are you doing to change direction? If you haven't yet done so, what feels like it's stopping you?
