Protecting Priorities
For many musicians, September marks the start of the “busy season.”
Gigs start to ramp up, orchestra seasons begin, and teaching jobs start back up.
Suddenly, your calendar is jam-packed and you have zero recollection of how it got that way.
I also know from my coaching experience that for so many of you, this bustle of activity doesn't always bring happiness or excitement. Sometimes it's fear: What if I lose the habits I built this summer? What if I get back on the hamster wheel of overwork and burnout?
So, let's commit to something different right now: That this fall doesn't have to look like last fall.
In fact, you can build your schedule around your priorities. Try it. Go into your calendar and block off personal time before your season begins to fill. It's such a small thing that can create so much relief, especially this time of year.
Remember:
✨ You’re allowed to protect your creative time.
✨ You’re allowed to say no.
✨ You’re allowed to define success by alignment, not overload.
So as September continues on, I’ll leave you with this question:
👉 What’s one boundary you can put in place right now to make this season feel different?
